Battersea Power Station was completed in 1939 and was the first in a series of extremely large coal-fired electrical generating facilities set up in the UK. It is currently being converted into a large commercial and entertainment complex as the centrepiece of a project to give new life to the surrounding area.
It featured on the cover of Pink Floyd's 1977 album Animals, with an inflatable pink pig floating high above the station.
