The Vasa or Wasa is the pearl of a very few surviving 17th-century warships. On August 10th 1628, on the day of the Vasa's maiden voyage, the ship sank just 2 km outside Stockholm. Probably because Vasa was built top-heavy and had insufficient ballast.
The ship wreck was first salvaged - with an almost intact hull - on 24th April 1961.
The amazing ship was intended to join the Baltic fleet in the Thirty Years' War. I had a total length of 69 m, a height of 52.5 m and carried 64 guns - among 48 heavy 24-pounder guns with superior firepower- 145 sailors and 300 soldiers.
