
This picture is taken inside the city walls. Cité de Carcassonne is the largest fortified medival town in the World. This huge and often thought as unbeatable fortress was thoroughly restored in 1853 by the architect Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, and was added to the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites in 1997.
