A splendid Neo-Byzantine church built in 1864 by the architect Henri-Jacques Espérandieu on the foundations of an ancient fort located at the highest natural point in Marseille, a 149 m limestone outcrop. A tower of 53 m supports a monumental 11 m statue of the Madonna and Child, made of copper and gilded with gold leaf.
